Welcome to Medical School 101

In this class, you will learn the current treatments for substance use disorder.  Sherri Candelario, Ph.D., Barb Mendrey, MD and Samantha Floresch SUDP present the fundamentals of medication, drug treatment and trauman informed practices.  Sherri is a frequent speaker on medical treatments for substance use disorder and provides information on common medications for recovery that your clients are prescribed.  Sherri provides information that every family should know to stay safe in a world where exposure to drugs can happen without our knowledge.

Sherri Candelario, Ph.D. earned her doctorate in pharmacology from the University of Washington Medical School. Sherri is an expert on how opioids work in the brain and has co-authored many peer-reviewed research papers on how opioids function and the methods of blocking the drug.  Sherri’s career is in medicine and biotechnology and in particular, helping create the intellectual property for companies to advance new therapies.

Sherri is a federally registered patent counsel and founded the patent practices in several pioneering biotech companies in Seattle and California, many that focus on diagnostics. Seattle is a hub of innovation and Sherri was in house counsel for several companies that have gone public or merged with other companies.

Barbara Mendrey, MD, is a skilled physician specializing in addiction medicine. For more than15 years, she has helped men and women end their struggles with addictions to alcohol, opioids, and other substances. She is passionate about Addiction Medicine. She developed her interest while providing medical care as a Family Practice doctor. Over the years her practice became exclusively dedicated to helping her patients who struggle with addiction. Dr. Mendrey obtained her medical degree from the Oregon Health Sciences University Schoolof Medicine in Portland. She completed her residency in family medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.  She currently serves as medical director and attending physician at Hotel California by the Sea inpatient detox program.
